Situation
Catlin Group Limited is a publically traded UK-based specialty insurer and reinsurer with $14 Billion in assets and annual gross premiums of $6 Billion. Catlin U.S. is the U.S. subsidiary based in Atlanta, GA with annual premium of $1 Billion. In early 2006 Catlin began a search for its new U.S. headquarters. The company was considering several east coast cities.
The Solution
Catlin hired Bailes & Associates, Inc. to consult on its site selection process, including an analysis of several critical factors: employment demographics, transportation, “quality of life” issues as well as real estate costs.
Bailes & Associates, Inc. conducted broad and encompassing market evaluations that involved quantifying available state grants and economic development incentives plus tactical real estate market evaluations of Boston, Hartford, New York City, Philadelphia and Atlanta.
Bailes expanded its support to Catlin U.S. providing office space, furniture and design standards and providing project management support.
Client Results
Atlanta, GA was selected in March 2006, and the first temporary office opened in April. Catlin’s 10,000 square foot headquarters was occupied the following September. Since that time the home office has grown to over 40,000 SF.
Since 2006, Bailes & Associates has exclusively represented Catlin in creating over 20 branch office locations throughout the U.S., including multiple expansions in Atlanta, establishing their flagship office in Manhattan in 2011, and creating offices in Bogota, Colombia and San Paolo, Brazil.
